Gecko911 Report post Posted June 1, 2016 Just purchased a 2016 MKX for my wife. We ended up selected a car from dealer inventory, and it has all of the options we were interested in, and even a few extras that weren't important to us. She's thrilled. The only missing option that my wife wanted is the roof rack side rails. Both she and I understand that they are really just cosmetic, but she's still interested. So...does anyone know if you can add roof rails "after the fact"? Can you purchase them as an accessory or repair part, and how are they attached? Thanks in advance for any insight. akirby Report post Posted June 1, 2016 The parts are available but they're super expensive - $500 per side. Attaches with 4 screws.
Cosmos36 Report post Posted June 1, 2016 Jeff...I can't be specific about installation details, but I do know that OEM roof rail assembly kits are available from dealers. Since installation requires drilling holes in the roof for the retainers & bracket nuts, I suspect a professional installation would be preferred at a dealer or body shop, thus one could expect a fair amount of labor costs in addition to the ~ $360-400 parts. I ordered the roof rails for aesthetic reasons only...luv 'em.
Gecko911 Report post Posted June 2, 2016 akirby & Cosmos36, Thanks for the quick response. I'll start a roof rail conversation with my dealer. Thanks, Jeff
Cosmos36 Report post Posted June 2, 2016 The contrast between the $195 (USD) OEM price and the cost to do a post-purchase installation is startling,

akirby Report post Posted June 2, 2016 I think there was a wheel that was $2200. This is why you need to do a lot of research if you want a specific feature.
mtmtmt Report post Posted June 3, 2016 Jeff, Here is a FordParts site that sells the roof rails for the 2016 MKX.. There is a separate listing for right and left sides. Also, it breaks it down further to builds before and after 10-15-2015. Bad news is they are $501.47 for builds before 10-14 and $560.88 for builds after 10-15. Double that for both sides. Then add in labor - which looks like it would involve removing the interior roof to mount screws to hold down the rails. http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/CatalogResults.aspx?y=2016&m=Lincoln&mo=MKX&initSearch=1&keyword=roof%20rack#
