Rick65inlosangeles Report post Posted April 30, 2016 Last Monday after the vehicle had been parked for two days, the battery was DEAD! Called Lincoln Roadside Assistance and within thirty minutes AAA was out and testing the battery. 4.2 volts. They jumped started the vehicle and the charging system checked ok. Gave me the report. Drove the vehicle directly to Star Lincoln for system checking and they replaced the battery. Only problem was waiting for three hours as they didn't have the battery in stock. mtmtmt Report post Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) During the first week of new ownership, my battery was dead too. I took it in to the Lincoln dealer and they said the battery checks out fine. I have been tracking the voltage twice a day since (as they requested) and it is a little low. I took it to my mechanic and he said the battery could be bad or one of the CPU's is putting a drain on it. He couldn't tell more without keeping it for a couple days. I imagine I will replace the battery if this happens again, as that is a quicker fix than trying to locate a source of drain. akirby Report post Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) Could be a batch of bad batteries. I'll test mine. Could also be a bad piece of electronics but the dealer should be able to diagnose that easily. Easy to identify that is - not necessarily easy to fix. Common causes are the BCM , shift park sensor ( not applicable to push buttons ). Jim_C Report post Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) One morning when I first started the car it went crazy. Flashed so many warning messages I could not keep track. Steering fault, collision not available, check charging system, cross traffic not available. 911 assist not available on the radio. Seemed to drive OK so off to the Lincoln garage. He said Lincoln would give you a battery with the new car, NOT knowing how good it would be. He also said if you were to weigh the factory battery against the Motorcraft replacement, you would find that the replacement is heavier because contains more plates and lead than the OEM battery. In past years, it has been no secret that Motorcraft branded replacement parts are superior to OEM non-Motorcraft assembly line parts, e.g. oil filters. thirdlb Report post Posted May 2, 2016 I am the one who has had the battery replaced at 2100 and 4200 miles. I am currently at 6500 and have not noticed any more problems. The first time the battery was just dead in the garage. The second time it happened was when I was on vacation. I received a message from the My Lincoln Mobile app in the morning about "low battery" with my MXK parked in the Hotel parking lot. catzpyjamas Report post Posted May 25, 2016 I am on my 2nd battery. The MKX was purchased new in Oct/15 and by Dec/15 I had to change the battery. Everything seemed fine until about 6 weeks ago when the car was dead in the morning. Had to hook up the Battery charger to it and it is ok since. I am getting a warning about drive control when I first start the car now... I had the dealer call me last week to setup a service appt. for the MKX....maybe they are having issues with this drive control warning with other cars. I also think they may have battery issues that are causing the other error messages. Either way...back to the dealer again. I've had my MKX for nearly four months and the battery has worked trouble-free. I want to correct my previous assumption that the battery is bad. I originally reported that my battery went dead in the first week, but now I'm convinced it was due to operator error. In that first week, I was trying out and playing with all the buttons and switches. I think I left the inside light(s) on. I think the MKX was "chiming" when I exited the vehicle, but I didn't recongnize it. When I went to use the car several days later, it was dead. The monitor I had on the voltage was from the OBDII interface and that voltage is somewhat lower than the voltage taken at the battery terminals, which has been 14.2-14.4 volts. fredluke Report post Posted June 3, 2016 Yes...This is why my MKX was delayed 6 months. I mentioned this in a previous post. There were issues with the early builds then the bugs were addressed. When my vin when down the line there was an issue with 3 items >batteries dying for some reason >water leak drivers A-pillar >electric steering harness He said when they find the same problem twice in a shift, that entire production is held in a holding area outside. Then one by one each vehicle is brought in to be inspected by the mechanics and engineers until they find the root cause. The process continues 24-7 until the defects are found. He said it's a priority because every MKX going down the line is sent outside and not shipped. Once the problems are found and corrected, then the first vin with the new changes is shipped if the defects prove to be corrected. Then the larger problem begins. Each vehicle outside has to be brought in to stalls and inspected to see if one of the listed defects exists and make the corrections. Then sent them to shipping. This happens 24-7 until the last vehicle is repaired. One final note: he said 95% of defects are due to supplier quality issues. He said the penalties and costs to suppliers that fail is substantial. He said the new MKX has rigid guidelines because of the parameters to achieve quality with cabin noise, safety, performance etc. So, my vehicle was held up in that batch but did not have any of the 3 defects. catzpyjamas Report post Posted June 7, 2016 I just had mine in for service on this issue. They told me they needed to reprogram the car and that should take care of the issue with the battery drain. I also had this issue on my 2014 Mustang 6cyl once as well. I am not sure if they are related in any way...but something to keep an eye on in the future. thirdlb Report post Posted September 17, 2016 I just had my battery replaced for the 3rd time. So, since new and less than 10,000 miles I am on my 4th battery. I had returned from a 900 mile trip over Labor day weekend with out any problems. Two days later battery completely dead in my garage. Lincoln Roadside Assistance came and towed my MKX to the dealer. I need to look at my receipt, because I remember the mechanic telling me that they replaced another part.My battery went dead 13 hrs after purchase. It could not hold a charge and was replaced. Another lady in the waiting room with me purchase a black label from the show room 2 weeks prior and was there for her second battery replacement. Interestingly enough I'm very interested in jaguars new f pace and people on their forums have the same issue and reported a factory flooded. a 3rd party was sourced for batterys causing the issues. fredluke Report post Posted February 9, 2017 Well I'm back to the dealer. Las Oct I had a dead battery and had it towed to my dealer in Oakville. Problem was software apparently causing the vehicles electronics to wake up randomly draining the battery. My dealer did the fix and installed a new battery. Now after driving from Oakville to Southern Cal with no issues I simply parked the vehicle as usual and approx. 4 hrs later my app showed a battery voltage drop. I hurried out to start it so I could at least see what is happening. Noooo!!! vehicle was totally dead...nada. Called roadside assistance next morning and had it towed to the local Lincoln dealer here. She was very polite and sympathetic to my issue. She explained that there is an outstanding modem update and throttle body replacement. She then retracted the throttle body comment as her screen showed my build date already had the new modified part. Her screen showed the previous battery issue from my home dealer and said it is strange that the issue has replicated. She handed me a loaner and said she will contact me as soon as she knows what happened. So far I like this dealer. I was shuffled up the line to get service and was treated like a high end customer. Will update when I hear more. As I said many times....because I was treated so well...my vehicles problem seemed minor as I felt like the dealer was concerned or at least left the impression of same.
