Hi guys, I bought the new usb module to get CarPlay.  I’ve been working for an hour trying to get old one out, and having no luck.  Is there any advice I can get to remove the old usb.  I’ve tried everything,  but it’s so tight in the console.  Thank you!

I finally figured it out, there is a screw about knee height under the leather trim on both sided holding the compartment in place and once I removed those then I was able to remove it and get the USB module without having to pry it out.

If you’re interested, once you can get wired CarPlay to work, you can easily setup for wireless CarPlay. I bought an adapter that enables that functionality for my 2017 MKX and it works well.  Can keep phone in pocket or bag without having to plug it in each time.

I'm going the expensive way...  2021 with Sync 4 and finally wireless CarPlay.

As luck would have it, I got an email today from the vendor about their Black Friday deal. Email brings price down to $99 from $160. Works great. Here’s link:

For those curious the part number the media hub that will enable Apple car play in sync 3 equipped 2016s is “HA1Z-19A387-AC”.  As most have stated it can be tough to remove but a helpful tip it the retaining tabs are on the top and bottom. Quite a bit of force is required to get them to release. Don’t worry about breaking the media hub if you do as you are replacing it with a new one. This is a plug and play modification.

I used a small screw driver and slowly pried it out from left side and then the top.  Once you get one side to budge a little then you can maneuver the other sides.  I had a set of pry tools too but they were of little help because the space is so damn tight.

my problem and question for the board is getting Apple car play working on a 2016 MKX.  I upgraded Sync 3 to version 3 with the USB.  The car software version showed that it took after I turned the ignition off , waited and restarted.  However when I plugged in two different I phones I was never prompted by the nav screen to accept car play.  I confirmed with a call to Lincoln tech that I purchased the correct USB module.  In fact I ordered the part number from reading a post in this forum about it.

any ideas?  Do I need to downgrade sync somehow and then upgrade again?   Anyone else have this issue and solve it?

Just like the original socket, some cables does not support CarPlay.

Dallas150, no clue if you're still on this forum 3+ years later.  The part number you provided shows as having two USB ports, but my original one for my 2016 MKX Reserve only has 1.  Does this sound right for your switch?

Also, any clue if the new module does anything for turn by turn directions coming up on the dashboard screen from CarPlay or Android Auto?
