On the highway going home at cruising speed (60 mph) the back window of the A4 in front of me explodes...

See the shattering followed by a wall of glass hitting the MKX.

The car did not stop, went to the police to make a report. Not a collision under the Ontario Highway Act so its a no fault "accident" covered by my insurance comprehensive clause.

At first glance beside the passenger side doors, the back of the car and the rims/tires, everything else got nicked:

Windshield, hood, front valence/bumper, headlight lenses, front grills, mirrors, front fenders, driver side doors, windshield pillards, A pillards, roof pillards and so on.

Good grief...that was a total frontal intrusion of your MKX...a one-in-a-million event. Studying your pics, the second thing that came to my mind was how much of that damage would have been mitigated by a full frontal clear bra installation. Shortly after purchasing the MKX, I had Xpel applied that covered all the surfaces you mentioned (except the grill) plus the door edges & door handle pockets. Over two years of driving I've heard a lot of hits, but suffered no damage yet.

It looks as if a lot of painting will be required to correct your unfortunate scenario. I'm hopeful that it can be done to your satisfaction.

Like we say in French, C'est la vie...

Nobody hurt or "traumatised" (my wife reaction was simply: What was that?) as for me I had my fair share at looking at death in the face and luckily that was not one of those moment.  Thank God that my windshield did not shatter.

On the way home, I stop at a shop recommended by my salesman (accredited by Lincoln Canada) to alleviate any problems that could arise down the road.

The guy had never seen anything like that and he found a few more scratched panels.  His last word was, "its going to take me a while to get a quote to you and insurance company".

Of all the parts that make the car: panels, glasses, grills, skirt, moulding, mirrors, lights and so on (event the cover of the front camera is nicked) the only ones that are not affected are listed below.

I'll post the quote cost once I receive it.

Panoramic Roof Glass

Rear Passenger Glass

Front Passenger Glass

Rims/Tire

Passenger Rear Door and Quarter Panel

Rear Hatch

I'm so sorry this happened to you and your wife, NOTMY911.

Just glad no one was hurt.

Cars can be replaced.  People can't... :-)

I was a bit off...

As it stand now, their preliminary quote (that list has a lot of remove and inspect so it could go up) is at 27% of the fully equipped 4wd MKX Reserve.

I guess if it was my 2013, I would be shopping for a new MKX.

Man sorry to hear, that suuuuuucks.  If it were mine I would get the best touch up for the paint nicks and wet send afterwards...  Since the paint is so new it can be done and never even be noticed afterwards since the nicks are quite small...

The above itemization appears to be a blank check wish list, but if that's the only option available for a renewed MKX, gopher it and strike a deal with the dealer for a satisfactory, guaranteed trade-in deal on a new vehicle. Personally, I wouldn't have confidence that the car could ever be repainted to my satisfaction.

Not really a blank check wish list if you could see the car.  As for the paint to your satisfaction, sure I would prefer they wrote off the MKX off but its their business call.  I'm sure they would have write off if I would have happen to my 2013.

As for a guarantee trade-in deal, if they don't meet my numbers I guess that the 2016 would be the last Lincoln I would own.
