In the clock setting, I have checked the Automatic Update to Time change option.  Since I've had the car, it has not changed the time during the "Spring Ahead and Fall Back" time changes.  So, should I change that setting to GPS time?  I bought the car in Indiana, but live in Illinois, so does the car still think it's still in Indiana in a part of the state that doesn't use daylight savings time?

It does not update for Daylight savings,  if I remember correctly from this weekend, if you click on the info "I" next to the gps button on the general --> clock screen,  it states that the clock does not adjust for savings times. But I would have thought there would have been a button to enable savings time instead of adjusting the clock....

I don't think any of my in vehicle clocks have ever updated automatically.   Not worth the programming effort to keep up with changing dates and exceptions.

I will be talking delivery of a me MKX in a few weeks so this was interesting to me.  FYI my current ride is a 2014 Cadillac CTS and it does change automatically.  So...it is  possible.

I looked at mine again today, and figured out that the GPS selection is only for when you are on a long trip and cross from one time zone to another, then it will automatically change the clock...not for Daylight Savings Time.

But does it work when they change the timing and does it work in those exception locations like Arizona and Cincinnati?

It's possible but it's still relatively complicated to implement and keep it up to date.

My Acura changed automatically, but BMW did not.  The time in the Acura was tied to the GPS system and that was not the case in the BMW.  I think that is mostly what it is about.

GPS for the clock or GPS for the location to determine time zone and DST?

My Acura set the time and date via GPS. It always adjusted for dst too and it could figure out what time Zone I was in. My bmw did neither. In fact, it did not even change to adjust for sunset.

I posted before about an experience I had traveling to Arizona from California during daylight savings last year. As soon as I crossed the border my MKX updated the clock and moved the destination in the navigation an hour further away. So the clock understands time zones, but not daylight savings or states that do not participate in daylight savings.
