Sync 3 uses a SD card. While the 2016 is reportably up to date, a new card generally run arouND $150-160.

Pulled this from the Sync 3 update manual "Annual navigation map updates are available for purchase through your dealership, by calling 1-866-462-8837 in the United States and Canada or 01-800-557-5539 in Mexico. You can also visit:"

There is no SD card slot on sync 3.   It would have to be a USB or wi-fi update.

My 2016 is at least 2 years behind.  A bridge overpass on a major highway finished in 2013 is missing.

I bought an update for my car late last year and it's still years behind on certain roads.
What I based my comments on was, I looked on the Lincoln website and they are reporting that 2016 is currently up-to-date. I would have assumed that they would have updated when the other updates came out in October, but .... who knows why?

Ok, sorry. Manual didn't state SD card, I had assumed it followed past years.

If I trade for a another Lincoln, prior to signing I will ask for a free up-date or a price reduction...

Just for a little clarity as it is my understanding, the "Sync 3" is developed by Ford/RMI (research in motion [BB]), and the Navigation software is developed by a 2nd party, and the mapping data is purchased from a 3rd company.  So the "Navigation Software" can be updated, but the map data is still way out of date.  From Google results a very common complaint on almost all in vehicle nav systems. But according to the navigation software I drive through the middle of corn fields every day on the way to work....  ;)

Yup. I updated mine in October or November and drove through a cornfield tonight. (It's a little unfair I guess inasmuch as the road was only put in five years ago.)

The addition of Waze to Sync apps is going to make the built-in navigation obsolete.

It's already obsolete with AA and CP

No it’s not. Waze doesn’t work with CP today. And it won’t take over and replace sync 3 like AA and CP does. I have no need for CP but I would use Waze this way.

Waze through AA is low-res and takes over Sync 3 as akirby says. I was a dedicated Waze user but now only use it for confirmation of the route planned out by the built in nav and sirius travel link.

Yes it is.  AA/CP handle mapping media phone and sms much better than the OEM system so it behooves somebody to use it.  However i understand somebody not wanting to have sync being taken over.  That said my comments stands as both CP and AA made the onboard navigation system obsolete already.

I thought you were saying AA and CP made the applink Waze obsolete. My mistake.
