Lincoln sells an OEM after new purchase trailer hitches for the MKC's and older MKX's.  Does anyone have any experience with these or how do they look compared to an original factory installed option?

When I called the local dealership, I was told that at this time, the OEM trailer hitch is not available for the 2016 model but will come out sometime this year.  I am even thinking about ordering the factory trailer hitch and lower plastic bumper with the hitch cut out for a true factory look if its possible.

I was going to do that but it's really expensive. Like $1k or more. I added a hidden hitch that sits below the bumper and looks fine. Doesn't interfere with the sensor at all. Total cost $180. Let me find the pics.

We are planning on getting another MKX. The one we already have came with a hitch and has the "trailer sway" option. For those who added a trailer do you have "trailer sway" in the driver's assist menu?

No, you'll only get that with the factory tow option.

Akirby,

Which hitch did you install on your 2016?  Was it the Draw-Tite one?  I need to get one installed on mine soon, as I am planning on going down to Florida in January and need to bring a couple bikes with us.

Did you do anything in regards to a wiring harness?  I think I might have to do something, so that I can have a set of magnetic brake lights attached to the car, since the bikes will probably block the taillights.

I did the Hidden Hitch from etrailer.com and it worked great. For some reason I don’t see a hidden hitch option any more - just the draw-tire and curt.

I think I used the Curt wiring harness but not 100% sure. I tapped into the rear PowerPoint. Make sure you get a good ground - I chased that for a few days.

Is your 4-pin adapter hanging from underneath the car or do you have it coming from inside the trunk area?  I saw pics on etrailers web site and don't want the power connector dangling from under the bumper.  I want to be able to pull it out when I need it, which wont be a heck of a lot.

I used this.  Works great and you can't beat the price.   Screwed it to the underside of the bumper.

Not really. The bulk of the hitch other than the receiver tube itself is actually hidden whereas on most other designs you can see it.

Would probably help if they did not put a white label with their name on it...  :)

When you say you tapped into the rear powerpoint, do you mean a powerpoint inside the rear trunk area?  So I guess you didn't run a power wire up to the battery like the instructions tell you to do?  I have the cargo utility package on my MKX and have the power outlet in the rear.  It would be nice to tap into that 12V supply instead of running that cable all the way underneath the car up to the battery.

Correct. I’m only running a small utility trailer with LED lights so it doesn’t need much power, and I only use it once in a while. I used a splice T connector on the hot wire behind the rear side panel.

I'm just going to be using it for carrying 2 bikes down to Florida.  I found a special purpose light bar that has lights and license plate holder, that attaches to the bikes.  This way I am seen on the way down.

Is there an easy path to run the 12V connection inside the cabin to tap into the accessory plug?
