In my 2016 MKX it seems it pulls in exhaust fumes into the AC vents and you smell like the rotten egg smell.

This only happens when entering the highway ramp where I accelerate up to speed.

Has anyone had something similar?

I do plan on mentioning it to my dealer on my next oil change service..

You're the first to mention the issue. Keep us posted if a solution is available.

Haven't experienced it.   More likely it's something burning off the exhaust.

Those are all first gen models - probably not related to a Gen II problem.

I would get it checked asap - if it is exhaust fumes you don't want any prolonged exposure.

There are reports of F-150 2.7 turbo oil line leaking threads. Do have the 2.7...is the odor that of burning oil?

The past problems seem to be related to exhaust fumes being drawn into the cabin through the rear cabin exhaust vents.

As an experiment you could turn the hvac blower up high and try to duplicate the conditions present when you last smelled the exhaust. The high speed blower will pressurize the cabin, forcing air 'out' through the cabin vents.

I have an 09 and have only noticed the rotten egg smell a couple of times. I turned up the blower and that stopped it.

This is a 2016 Build 2 but I found someone else who has the exact same issue on his 2016 MKX.

It only happens when I accelerate onto the highway entrance.

Will keep you posted.

I have this issue going on right now.  I have 4,400 miles on the car and it happens every time I accelerate to get on the interstate.  I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow.  Is there a fix?

Are the vehicles experiencing the exhaust odors in fresh/outside air mode or recirculation/inside air mode. Note: max air is also a recirculation mode.

I noticed this on an mkz loaner I just had. Do not notice in my mkc. I'm waiting for a appointment and in waiting area the tv has the local (NJ) cable channel and the messages in the bottom are "sponsored" by FORD. They just popped up a banner message stating something about ford and the exhaust fumes. It switched off quickly before I could read the whole thing. Probably in all news feeds. Looks like they are aware and hopefully will have a fix.

Hmmm...no apparent issue with my X. I wonder...intermittent production QC problem or common to all MKXs on the road. As likely most folks know, SUV configurations invite the intrusion of dust, exhaust fumes, water spray, etc. but it's sounding as it some X vehicle have an abnormal issue.

So, has Ford formally in any fashion recognized that there is an issue with exhaust fumes in 2016 MKX?

You are not alone! I have noticed this since day one with my MKX, I actually noticed it during my test drive, even mentioned it to the salesman. I live in area that has a number of hills, and I notice it daily.  It is horrible if you accelerate to pass a vehicle on a two-lane highway! I have an appointment in two weeks for vehicle maintenance and you can bet this will be addressed with my dealership.

As this is the first SUV I've ever owned, I can't say for any others, but my 09 MKX is quiet, dust free, exhaust free and has never has water in the doors or floorboards. Wonder what they changed to make such a mess of the current crop. Must be a weak (or nonexistent) quality control program.

I took my '16 MKX into my local dealer for the first oil change and mentioned this problem, along with three other issues that had to be addressed. Two weeks later, the other issues were fixed and my oil was changed, but the smell is still there. It's not a constant smell, but it's there if you ever accelerate quickly.  My dealership said they were very aware that some of them have an odor and some do not. They asked me to be patient and give the car time to break in.

I can assure you if the problem persists, I will be mentioning it every time I take mine in for it's complimentary service.

My MKX has the same issue. Rotten egg smell in the cabin when driving on the highway. Very embarrassing especially on the occassions where I need to drive my clients around when performing my job. Lincoln really dropped the ball on this "luxury" brand of theirs.
